CNOOC – State owned oil company incorporated in 1982. Generated sales revenue of RMB 70.92 billion and net profit of RMB 24.22 billion in 2004, increasing by 32%, 62% respectively as compared with the previous year. As the end of 2004, its total assets and nets assets had reached RMB 153.26 billion and 83.06 billion, a 28% and 21% increase as compared with the beginning of the year. Bidding against Chevron for UNOCAL.
Haier – Founded in 1987 and China 's leading maker of white goods, been in the USA since 1994 and accounts for 50% of America 's small refrigerator business. Considered a bid for Maytag ( Hoover ) but decided against it.
Lenovo - Founded in 1984 in a two-room bungalow in Beijing by 11 scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is now the leading PC maker in China and the third-largest PC maker in the world. Last year purchased IBM's PC division for $1.75 billion.
TCL – Founded in 1981 to make cassette tapes, now the world's largest maker of television sets. Acquired German electronic-appliance maker Schneider and majority control of France 's Thomson Electronics. Established strategic alliances with Philips and Toshiba amongst others.
ZTE – China 's largest listed telecommunications equipment provider, started in the mid-1980's as an offshoot of China 's aerospace ministry. The company's 2004 Hong Kong IPO raised $400million, which ZTE plans to use part of to expand its business outside of China.
